We talk a lot about the transformation of the workforce in the new era of the digital economy right?
Think about libraries and librarians, will they disappear? If the question is asked to Dianne Connery she will definitely say NO, we will transform ourselves.
She is transforming herself and the career of many rural librarians by becoming a Rural America last mile connectivity expert, and she is helping to coach others to follow her.
She doesn’t need to have an engineering degree or Telco background, most important qualification, she is a doer, and she knows how to ask for help from technical experts, like “JJ” McGrath.
In the future libraries may become a point of reference for those who want to change careers and are looking for online training, librarians could become careers coachers, guiding students, of all ages, in the universe of online training.
Also, libraries may become important Internet hubs, most of them could be connected via fiber or another type of high capacity pipe, and from the library, we can build a network of smaller backhauls and access points to increase the accessibility of the public service.
